Volume
Term category: Stocks
In 10 words or less:  The amount (usually given in shares) of a stock traded in a given day.

Definition: The number of shares of a particular stock that is traded in a given period of time. "Daily volume" would be the number of shares traded in one day.

StockJargon Advice: A company's volume is a tell-tale sign of what's going on. If a company has a day where its volume is considerably higher than its average daily volume, it's likely that some news came out that affected the stock.

Also, we recommend avoiding stocks with small volumes, because they're hard to get into and out of.
