Specialist
Term category: Stocks
In 10 words or less:  A person who is responsible for "making the market" in a stock.

Definition: A person on a trading floor who is responsible for managing the inventory of certain stocks.

StockJargon Advice: If you went to the NYSE and saw all of the action going on, you could point out the specialist pretty easily. The specialist is located near "booths" where specific stocks are traded. He or she matches to buyers and sellers together to complete trades.

Each specialist manages about 2-3 different stocks.
