Buy Side
Term category: General Investing
In 10 words or less: A side of Wall Street that represents institutional investors.

Definition: The buy side is a side of Wall Street that represents institutional investors that are managing securities as investments.  A buy side analyst is someone who works for one of these institutions and makes recommendations to buy or sell securities.

StockJargon Advice: This differs from sell side analysts that make recommendations for the public as a whole, rather than the company's portfolio.

Think of buy side research as deciding what stocks to buy and sell for your own company, whereas sell side research makes these recommendations for your clients.
